Ball State's MS in Nursing and FNP certificate for Connecticut nurses
Connecticut nurses may enroll in Ball State's MS in Nursing and, going by the map and the application page, its post-master's FNP certificate; the doctorate stays closed to them. Connecticut has belonged to the Nurse Licensure Compact only since October 2025, and its nursing education regulations target prelicensure programs, so the practical work is the preceptor and Ball State's agreement.

Connecticut's status, program by program
Two of Ball State's three graduate nursing entries include Connecticut under Authorized: the Masters in Nursing, which carries all three concentrations, and the Post-Master's Certificate FNP. The Doctorate of Nursing Practice lists Connecticut as not currently authorized.

Authorized means you may enroll, not that Ball State has judged Connecticut licensure. It publishes no such finding for any state and sends licensure questions to each state's agency, which for Connecticut means the Department of Public Health and its Board of Examiners for Nursing. The certificate question for Connecticut MSNs
Connecticut is among the nine states where the map opens the certificate, and the application page names it among eight. The Graduate Nursing Handbook 2025-26, though, still limits the certificate to people living in Indiana or Ohio whose RN license comes from one of those two states. Ask admissions which statement governs before applying.
Should Connecticut stand, your hours depend on your first master's. Adult and adult-gerontology NPs complete three courses for 390 hours, pediatrics in NUR 682, women's health in NUR 684 and the NUR 673 practicum, while nurses from non-NP concentrations also take NUR 681 and NUR 683, reaching 690 hours if NUR 634 is required. What Connecticut's regulations do and do not reach
Three parts of Connecticut's nursing regulations come up when a program from another state places students there. Each was drafted for programs leading to first licensure and none addresses APRN education, so ask your course faculty what, if anything, applies.

On AANP's map Connecticut is full practice, but only once an NP there has worked three years and logged 2,000 hours alongside a collaborating physician, so a newer NP may still be inside that window.
Hartford, New Haven and the New York line
Census Bureau counts for 2025 rank Hartford-West Hartford-East Hartford first at roughly 1.17 million, ahead of Bridgeport-Stamford-Danbury (roughly 978,000), New Haven (roughly 579,000) and Waterbury-Shelton (roughly 463,000). Yale New Haven Health and Hartford HealthCare head the list of in-state systems, joined by UConn Health and Trinity Health Of New England, while New York-based Northwell Health now operates Danbury Hospital and other former Nuvance sites on Connecticut's western side. Ball State's excluded-agency notes name no Connecticut system.
New York sits outside Ball State's MS authorization, so a practice a short drive from Stamford or Danbury but across the state line cannot hold your hours. Massachusetts and Rhode Island are authorized for the MS, though neither is open for the certificate, which leaves certificate students with Connecticut clinics only.
Your license under Connecticut's compact membership
Connecticut's compact start date is recent, October 1, 2025. The Department of Public Health confirms that an RN student may now use a Connecticut license, or the multistate license of whatever compact state is home, to practice there. For a Connecticut resident the license comes from Connecticut; Ball State wants it active and unencumbered, with each renewal approved in American Data Bank. Upload steps are in the RN license guide.
The MS FNP brings you to Muncie once, for an 8-hour clinical day that is part of NUR 681; certificate applicants see a one-day campus orientation listed on their application page instead.

Questions Ball State students ask
Can I use a Northwell Health site for Ball State clinicals?
Location decides it. Northwell's Connecticut hospitals, the former Nuvance sites, sit in an authorized state; its New York sites do not, since Ball State's MS is closed in New York. Ball State's notes do not name Northwell, but any site still needs the standard affiliation agreement and faculty review.
Is Ball State's DNP available to Connecticut residents?
Not currently. The DNP's map entry, created in September 2025, authorizes six states, none in New England. Connecticut nurses aiming at FNP have the MS in Nursing or, once admissions confirms Connecticut, the certificate.
Does Connecticut require Ball State to apply before I train there?
Connecticut's regulations state no separate application or notice for an out-of-state program; one approved by its home board is treated as approved when curriculum and licensure standards line up. If a Connecticut agency asks about state approval, point it to Ball State's placement staff.
Can my Connecticut hospital host my Nurse Educator practicum?
Yes, if it signs Ball State's affiliation agreement. The educator and leadership concentration pages let the 180-hour NUR 672 practicum happen where you work, supervised by an RN who holds a master's degree or a doctorate. FNP students differ: their clinicals cannot be in their own unit or clinic.
