Greater Lafayette clinicals for Ball State FNP students
Greater Lafayette is nine counties around Lafayette and West Lafayette, roughly 108 to 114 miles from Muncie, with Logansport, Frankfort and Crawfordsville as smaller hubs. IU Health Arnett, Franciscan Health Lafayette East and Parkview Logansport Hospital each set their own student rules, and a Purdue-affiliated health center network covers Carroll and White counties. A Ball State search here has to reach the small towns as well as the city.

Nine counties from Fowler to Crawfordsville
This guide uses Indiana Department of Health District 4: Benton, Carroll, Cass, Clinton, Fountain, Montgomery, Tippecanoe, Warren and White counties. The Census Bureau put the district at 380,757 people in 2025, about half of them in Tippecanoe County (190,456), where Lafayette has 71,238 residents and West Lafayette 45,747. Logansport, Frankfort and Crawfordsville each hold between roughly 16,700 and 18,300, and Monticello, Attica, Delphi, Covington and Fowler are all under 6,000.
Benton, Carroll, Warren and Tippecanoe make up the Lafayette-West Lafayette metro area. White, Cass, Clinton and Montgomery are micropolitan counties, and Fountain sits outside both. Approximate road distances from Muncie run from about 65 miles (Frankfort) to 84 (Logansport), 96 (Crawfordsville), 108 (Lafayette) and 114 (West Lafayette).
IU Health Arnett, Frankfort and White Memorial
IU Health's hospitals here are Arnett in Lafayette and two critical access hospitals, IU Health Frankfort and IU Health White Memorial in Monticello. IU Health keeps a student placement services page for these three, yet it sends nurse practitioner students elsewhere: its Office of Clinical Education (OCE) takes every advanced practice student through one database with fixed application windows and matches each with an IU Health preceptor.
Two IU Health rules shape a Ball State student's odds. Its student page admits only students whose primary residence and nursing licensure are in Indiana, and its manual has schools tell students they may not contact IU Health staff or providers to find a preceptor themselves. The OCE page names family and primary care, pediatrics, women's health and behavioral health as the specialties requested most, and it lets an unmatched student look for a preceptor outside IU Health.
Franciscan, Parkview Logansport and the landmarks
Franciscan Health runs Lafayette East and Crawfordsville. Its Lafayette NP rotations page says a candidate must be in good standing with one of Franciscan's affiliated schools, takes applications by email to the Lafayette coordinator, and links the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services. Crawfordsville has no NP rotation page of its own. Franciscan Health Lafayette also hosts North Central Indiana AHEC.
Logansport Memorial Hospital joined Parkview Health on July 1, 2025 as Parkview Logansport Hospital. Parkview's college clinicals page is general rather than NP-specific: a Microsoft Forms request, placement by location preference and availability, and a clinical assigned to a department or an individual preceptor. Its requirements, due at least 30 days before the start, include a background check, immunizations, a TB test within 12 months, a 10-panel drug screen and BLS. Parkview is also building a West Lafayette hospital, planned to open in 2028.
Ascension St. Vincent Williamsport, a critical access hospital, publishes no student process and is a landmark only. The state hospital directory also lists a pending Ascension St. Vincent license in West Lafayette with no beds, unconfirmed on Ascension's own site.
Health centers and shortage counties
HRSA lists seven health center organizations in the district. The largest is the Family Health Clinic, with 15 sites in Carroll and White counties including Delphi, Burlington, Monon and Wolcott; it is affiliated with the Purdue University School of Nursing and says it trains Purdue nursing and pharmacy students. Riggs Community Health Center has four sites in Clinton and Tippecanoe, Meridian Health Services and Indiana Health Centers three each, Valley Oaks Health and Alliance Health Centers two each, and Valley Professionals Community Health Center one in Montgomery County.
HRSA's September 2026 data show geographic primary care shortage designations in Fountain, Montgomery, Warren and White counties, with Benton and Carroll proposed for withdrawal, plus low-income designations in Cass, Clinton and Tippecanoe. Two rural health clinics, Access Medical Clinic Indiana and Logansport Family Health Care, hold facility designations. West Central Indiana AHEC covers Fountain, Montgomery and Warren.
Fitting Ball State courses to Lafayette-area sites
As a Ball State FNP student you find your own preceptor in your community, and you must live and train in a state where Ball State is authorized, which Indiana is. Each site must be primary care, outside your own unit or clinic, and able to sign Ball State's affiliation agreement well before the term (how agreements work).

Does Franciscan Health Lafayette take Ball State NP students?
Franciscan's Lafayette page requires good standing with one of its affiliated schools but publishes no school list. Ask the Lafayette coordinator whether a Ball State agreement is in place. If not, Ball State prefers its own standard affiliation agreement, which the School of Nursing asks you to start about a semester ahead.
Is Parkview Logansport Hospital an option for FNP clinicals?
Parkview's student pages describe general college clinicals, request by online form and assign by location preference and availability, but say nothing specific about nurse practitioner students or affiliation agreements. Ball State still needs its own agreement signed and your course faculty's approval, so treat Parkview as one option alongside independent practices.
Will the Purdue-affiliated Family Health Clinic precept a Ball State student?
The clinic describes itself as affiliated with Purdue's School of Nursing and says it trains Purdue nursing and pharmacy students. It publishes no process for students from other schools, so its capacity for a Ball State student is an open question worth asking well ahead of your course.
Can I live in Lafayette but keep only an Illinois RN license?
Ball State's catalog asks for an active RN license in your state of practice, so Indiana clinicals need a license valid in Indiana, whether an Indiana license or a multistate compact license. IU Health's own page goes further and asks for Indiana licensure for its placements. See RN license rules before you plan.
