Wyoming preceptors for Ball State FNP students
Wyoming RNs can enroll in Ball State's MS in Nursing and complete its clinical hours in Wyoming, save the FNP's single day in Muncie; Ball State keeps the FNP certificate and the DNP closed there. Wyoming's board requires no approval of graduate programs from other states, but it does expect a notice letter plus a facility contract, both in place before a clinical begins, and with Cheyenne, the largest metro, near 103,000 people, the search often reaches past one town.

Wyoming's entry on the State Authorization Map
Ball State lists its nursing credentials one by one, and Wyoming's answer is yes to the master's only.

That yes concerns enrollment. Ball State makes no determination about Wyoming's APRN licensure standards and sends students to the Wyoming State Board of Nursing (WSBN) with that question. The state authorization guide sets the lists side by side.
Wyoming's notice rule for graduate programs
Chapter 6 of the Board's rules sorts schools from elsewhere by whether their students already hold a license. Programs preparing students for a first license need the Board's permission; programs for licensed nurses, MSN, APRN and DNP education among them, bypass approval yet still owe Wyoming some paperwork.

The contract step lines up with Ball State's standard affiliation agreement, which Ball State accepts only as a signed original. Full practice NPs in a state of small cities
AANP ranks Wyoming as full practice, so a family nurse practitioner can run a practice and prescribe without a physician agreement, and independent NP clinics belong on your list. Ball State's catalog makes clinical travel costs the student's, so weigh the drive whenever a promising site sits a town or two away.

Montana and Utah count; Colorado does not
Of Wyoming's six neighbors, only Montana and Utah are authorized for Ball State's master's. Colorado, Idaho, Nebraska and South Dakota are Not Authorized, and Ball State's Colorado note separately flags contract trouble tied to that state's workers' compensation rules.
All three open states share the Nurse Licensure Compact: Wyoming, Montana and Utah have been members since January 19, 2018, so a multistate Wyoming license can reach a Montana or Utah clinic if your course faculty approve it. Questions Ball State students ask
I live in Cheyenne. Could a Colorado clinic host my Ball State hours?
No. Colorado is Not Authorized for every Ball State nursing program, and the Graduate Catalog wants each clinical hour in an authorized state. Ball State's clinical agency notes also warn that it may not contract with the Colorado agency a student picks. A Wyoming site, or one in Montana or Utah, keeps your hours countable.
Does Wyoming's APRN Compact let an NP from another state precept me?
Not yet. Wyoming is one of five enacting states, two short of the seven the compact requires, and in May 2026 NCSBN reported that its board had charged staff with redesigning the compact alongside state boards. For now, an APRN precepting you in Wyoming practices on a Wyoming license.
Could a Wyoming nurse with a master's take Ball State's FNP certificate instead?
Only after moving. The map lists Wyoming as Not Authorized for the certificate; Utah, next door, is on its list, and eligibility follows residence. Staying in Wyoming, the Ball State route to FNP certification is the master's concentration, 690 clinical hours with one 8-hour day in Muncie.
Is Ball State's DNP open to Wyoming nurses?
No. Wyoming is outside the doctorate's six authorized places, and Ball State has not said whether that list, created in September 2025, will grow. The FNP cognate shares the same status, so check again before you plan around a DNP.
